Translating the Value of PRP for Patients
Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) Basics
WHAT ARE PLATELETS AND WHAT IS PLASMA?
WHAT IS PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a preparation made from a patient’s own blood that concentrates platelets and growth factors.
HOW DOES PRP WORK?
Transported via plasma, platelet cells circulate throughout your body to help repair damaged blood vessels, regenerate new tissue and stop bleeding. With platelet-rich plasma, more platelets are being distributed, releasing higher levels of nutrients and protein growth factors to the areas that need them.
How is Illuminate PRP made?
PRP IS PREPARED IN 3 EASY STEPS:
A small amount of blood (22ml) is drawn into a sterile Illuminate PRP tube.
The tube is placed in a centrifuge and spun at 3400 RPM. Using density gradient centrifugation, the PRP is isolated from the blood.
The platelet-rich plasma is extracted from the tube and applied.
